Get your Masjid online with a novel web service

Get your Masjid online with a novel web service available exclusively to the Muslim community and it’s absolutely free…….!
Masjids.in would be one of the biggest and first ever directory of Masjids in India. We believe that through emerging online media there is an opportunity to enhance awareness and knowledge, leading to a better understanding and peaceful coexistence in our rapidly shrinking global village. Internet has altered consensus-building among the Ummah. What used to take decades, even centuries to agree on has been accelerated by the Internet’s ability to give instant access to the teachings and thoughts of distant Islamic scholars and original texts. Practices, laws and beliefs once bound by geography are evolving into a mainstream Muslim identity; on Internet time. The internet has profoundly shaped how Muslims perceive Islam, and how Islamic societies and networks are evolving in the twenty-first century.

Protests and demonstrations have brought much of France to a standstill !

Paris's founders were probably the Gauls, who built a small settlement on the left bank of the Seine. The Romans reached here at an early stage, led by Julius Caesar. Paris became a true capital in the year 987 when Ugo Capote founded a new dynasty. Paris began to develop not only as an urban center, but also from the cultural point of view. Paris has retained its place in the history of mankind and its culture.

Weeks of strikes, protests and demonstrations have brought much of France to a standstill as workers, students and others voice their strong opposition to a government proposal to raise the age for a minimum pension from 60 to 62. A quarter of the nation's gas stations were out of fuel, hundreds of flights were canceled, long lines formed at gas stations and train services in many regions were cut in half. Protesters blockaded Marseille's airport, Lady Gaga canceled concerts in Paris and rioting youths attacked police in Lyon. The unpopular bill is edging closer to becoming law as the French Senate is preparing to vote on it today. Collected here are recent images of the unrest around France. Update: Pension reform bill just now passed by French senate.

Ten-day International Peace Conference starts in Mumbai

Over 40 speakers to discuss international, social and political issues By TCN News
Mumbai: Mumbai plays host to the fourth edition of the Islamic Peace Conference - that is being attended by renowned scholars and academia from over India and several countries, including England, USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and UAE, among others. The International Peace Conference will be a 10-day affair starting on Friday, October 22nd at Sion's Somaiya Grounds in Mumbai and will go on till Sunday, October 31st, 2010.
Organised by the Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation, the Islamic Peace Conference has had three successful editions since 2007. Over the years, the Conference has seen some of the most high profile scholars and international personalities attend and interact with the masses. Names such as Yassir Fazaga, Dr. Hussain H. Hassan (father of Islamic Banking), and Dr. Ahmad Turkistani have delivered lectures to an audience of over 25,000

The Peace Conference comes at the backdrop of the global concern among Muslims over relating all forms of terrorism to Islam and Jihad. The Peace Conference and its renowned speakers will address some of the burning issues that face the world, and attempt to explore and suggest solutions for global peace. It is expected to suggest solutions from within Islam to issues like "violence in the name of God", "Peace and Prosperity – Islam's goal for humanity", "Islam and Secularism", "Peaceful Co-existence", "Non-Muslims' Rights in Islam", "The two Extremes and the Middle Path".
The Peace Conference is a rare platform that will NOT have 'religious' leaders, but SCHOLARS and ACADEMICIANS deliberating on intellectual, yet practical, solutions to global issues affecting Islam. Hence, the Conference will not see passionate sermons being delivered by religious leaders, BUT well researched, academic and administrative solutions to communities and governments / administrations to implement.
One of the major attractions of the Conference is an exhibition of ‘Halal’ products from across the world. Halal products, among Muslims, are products made from ingredients allowed within the Islamic tenets. Worldwide, Halal products are majorly sold in Islamic economies and markets.
The Islamic Peace Conference is expected to attract lots of international focus and will see renowned speakers addressing the masses every day for 10 days. The organisers expect over 5 lakh visitors to attend the conference over the period.

"Yawm-ul-Arba'a" Wednesday

The fourth day of the Islamic week is Yawm-ul-arba'a, that is, Wednesday.

Hazrat Ali (r.a), Hazrat Jaabir (r.a), Hazrat Bibi Aïcha Siddiqa (r.a) said that Yawm-ul-arba'a is harmful day. But however it carries bad luck only for the unbelievers (kaafirs), but is blessed (mubaarak) for the believers (mu'minn). In answer to the questions of the sahabas (r.a), the holy Prophet  explained that it is on that day that the army of Pharaoh was drowned in the river Nile and Allah sent his punishments (`azaabs) on the unbelievers of the past Wednesdays. As Allah himself specifies it in the holy Quraan: "We sent against them a violent and icy wind, on a harmful and interminable day" [ sourah 54 – verse 19 ]. The harmful day mentioned here is verily a Wednesday.

Just like Qaaroun (of the time of Hazrat Mousa a.s) was absorbed in the ground, Pharaoh and his army were drowned in the river, Namroud (of the time of Hazrat Ibraahîm a.s), received the punishment of the sting of a mosquito which penetrated his brain), the unbelievers of the people of Hazrat Lout a.s (Lot) perished under a rain of rocks, king Shaddaad and the unbelievers of the people of Hazrat Houd (a.s) were carried by a strong gale and many unbelievers among the people of ancient prophets got their punishments on Wednesday.

On the other hand, for believers (mu'minns), Wednesday is a day of Noor, i.e. a day of light. For that reason, from the time sahaabis to our days, Islamic education begins on Wednesdays, because the holy Prophet  said that "education is light" and light must begin on the day of light.

Also, Rasoulullaah  prevented from cutting the nails and to be made hair cut on Wednesdays because it can generate leprosy. Nabi-e-kareem  also advised against making blood transfusion on Wednesdays because it may generate diseases.

Hazrat Ma'az bin Jabal (r.a) reported that the holy Prophet  taught to him to make on Wednesdays, 4 raka'ats of namaz nafils in the course of the day (2 by 2 raka'ats), in the first 2 raka'ats, in each raka'at, after sourah al-Faatihah, read 1 time Aayat-ul-kurrsi and 3 times sourah al-Ikhlaass. Separately, for the two last raka'ats, in each raka'at, after sourah al-Faatihah, read 1 time Aayat-ul-kurrsi and 1 time sourah al-Falaq and 1 time the sourah an-Naas. After salaam, make du'as as follows: "Allaahumma rabbanaa aatinaa fid-dunyaa hasanatanw-wa qinaa `azaaban-naarr. Yaa `azîzu Yaa Ghaffaar, Yaa kareemu Yaa Sattaarr". Then make your du'as and by the barkat of this namaz nafil, Allah ta’ala will keep you away from misfortunes and spread light in your life.

Perform the pilgrimage and the visit (to Makka) for Allah. And if ye are prevented, then send such gifts as can be obtained with ease, and shave not your heads until the gifts have reached their destination. And whoever among you is sick or hath an ailment of the head must pay a ransom of fasting or almsgiving or offering. And if ye are in safety, then whosoever contenteth himself with the visit for the pilgrimage (shall give) such gifts as can be had with ease. And whosoever cannot find (such gifts), then a fast of three days while on the pilgrimage, and of seven when ye have returned; that is, ten in all. Tony Blair’s sister-in-law has converted to Islam

In The name of Allah,The Most Merciful,The Most gracious

Tony Blair’s sister-in-law has converted to Islam

Tony Blair’s sister-in-law has converted to Islam after having what she describes as a “holy experience” during a visit to Iran.
Journalist and broadcaster Lauren Booth, 43 – Cherie Blair’s sister – now wears a hijab whenever she leaves her home, prays five times a day and visits her local mosque whenever she can.
She decided to become a Muslim six weeks ago after visiting the shrine of Fatima al-Masumeh in the city of Qom.
“It was a Tuesday evening and I sat down and felt this shot of spiritual morphine, just absolute bliss and joy,” she said in an interview today.
When she returned to Britain, she decided to convert immediately.
Booth – who works for Press TV, the English-language Iranian news channel – has stopped eating pork and reads the Qur’an every day. She is currently on page 60.
Booth has stopped drinking alcohol and says she has not wanted to drink since converting.
Before her spiritual awakening in Iran, she had been “sympathetic” to Islam and has spent considerable time working in Palestine, she said, adding that she hoped her conversion would help Blair change his presumptions about Islam.

When she returned to Britain, she decided to convert immediately.
‘Now I don’t eat pork and I read the Koran every day. I’m on page 60. I also haven’t had a drink in 45 days, the longest period in 25 years,’ she said.
‘The strange thing is that since I decided to convert I haven’t wanted to touch alcohol, and I was someone who craved a glass of wine or two at the end of a day.’
Refusing to discount the possibility that she might wear a burka, she said: ‘Who knows where my spiritual journey will take me?’
Before her awakening in Iran, she had been ‘sympathetic’ to Islam and has spent considerable time working in Palestine. ‘I was always impressed with the strength and comfort it gave,’ she said of the religion.
Miss Booth, who works for Press TV, the English-language Iranian news channel, has been a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq.
In August 2008 she travelled to Gaza by ship from Cyprus, along with 46 other activists, to highlight Israel’s blockade of the territory.
She was subsequently refused entry into both Israel and Egypt.
She said she hoped her conversion would help Mr Blair change his presumptions about Islam.
The men, women and children around me withstood a day of no water and no food (it’s called Ramadan, Tony, it’s a fast),’ Booth wrote.
‘Coping with hunger and thirst in the hundred degrees heat, as if it were nothing. They can withstand deprivation in the Muslim world.
‘Here in Iran they feel proud to suffer in order to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. It’s kind of like the way you express solidarity with America only without illegal chemical weapons and a million civilian deaths.’
She adds: ‘Your world view is that Muslims, are mad, bad, dangerous to know. A contagion to be contained.
‘In the final chapter [of his autobiography] you say we need a “religious counter attack” against Islam. And by “Islam” you mean the Al Quds rallies, the Palestinian intifada (based on an anti Apartheid struggle Tony, NOT religious bigotry), against every Arab who fails to put their arms in the air as the F16 missiles rain on their homes and refugee camps and sing a rousing chorus of ‘Imagine all the people…’

Urgent need for peace in Middle East: Pope

By DPA,
Rome : Roman Catholic Pope Benedict XVI Sunday called for the prompt resolution of the Middle East conflict and urged Muslim countries to guarantee total religious freedom.
Peace is needed urgently in the volatile region, and an essential prerequisite for dignified life, the pontiff said at a mass at St Peter's Basilica to mark formal closing of the Vatican's two-week synod on future of the Middle East's dwindling Christian communities.
"The conflict in the Middle East has gone on for too long -- the wars, the violence, the terrorism," Benedict said.
Freedom of religion was one of the fundamental human rights every state in the region should respect, he noted. Several Muslim countries tightly curtail the practice of Christianity.
The meeting of bishops, or synod, regarded the need for Christians and Muslims enter into dialogue as important, Benedict said.
The bishops produced a 44-point set of proposals on how to strengthen the Christian presence in the region. The document is to be submitted to the pontiff for his final approval.

Lessons of Qurbani

It is neither their flesh nor their blood that reaches Allah;
it is your piety that reaches Him." (Qur'an 22:37)

                Lessons of Qurbani / Udhiyah

Qurbani is once in the year but it has lessons which every Muslim can apply for the rest of the  year.

 1. Importance of Qurbani

Allah mentions sacrificing of an animal side by side with Salaah in a number of verses of the Quraan :

a. "Verily my prayer, my sacrifice, my life  and my death are for Allah; the Lord of the worlds.”

b. So turn in prayer towards your Lord and  sacrifice (animals).” (108.2)

Salaah is a pivotal component of Islam. Without  Salaah little of Islam remains. The fact that sacrifice (Qurbani) has been mentioned with it shows that it is similarly an important form of  worship.

When a person slaughters a Qurbani animal, he is forgiven at the fall of the first drop of blood, and the animal will be brought on the Day of Qiyamah with its blood, meat, limbs, etc and placed on his scale  of deeds. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam also mentioned that there is a reward attached for every hair or fibre of wool on the body of the sacrificed animal.

2. Respecting a personality by deed not  statue
Islam teaches a unique method of paying respect to a great personality. In other cultures a person of respect is remembered by his statue or portrait. Islam commands that the practical act of the individual be emulated. The sacrifice of Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam was virtuous and we are  commanded to do the very same action every year. Likewise, the life of the  Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was so beautiful that every Muslim has been instructed to live their lives in his mould. Similarly, the running of Bibi Hajira between Safa and Marwa is in the  same way remembered by every Muslim who performs the Sa'ee during Umrah.

3. Islam teaches peace not violence
Before we slaughter the animal we  take the name of Allah seeking His permission and asking for His blessings. The taking of a life is by no means a minor task. When Muslims are so scrupulous about respecting animal life how much more when it comes to human life? By no  means are Muslims terrorists and blood-thirsty fanatics! Muslims are taught to adhere to a code ethics even on the battlefield.

4. Superiority of the Islamic method of  slaughter

Islam, being a perfect way of life, has taught us how  to slaughter an animal. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught us not to cause unnecessary pain and torture to the animal at the time of slaughter. It is with this in mind that Islam gives  the following general guidelines :

  • The knife used for slaughtering  should be well sharpened so that it slits the throat easily, without causing  undue pain.
  • The knife should not be sharpened in front of the animals as this may drive fear into them.
  • The animal should be slaughtered in isolation so that other animals cannot see the  slaughter.
  • The animal should be laid on the ground with ease and should not be mercilessly dragged to the place of  slaughter.
Research studies conducted have  proven that the Islamic method of severing the veins causes less pain to the animal than the method of stunning. Studies have also shown that the blood drains out of the animal more effectively in this way rendering the meat more  wholesome and pure.

5. Building Leadership qualities and removing pride
Every prophet of Allah looked after sheep at some  point in his life. This was a divine system of training aimed at teaching the prophet leadership qualities. It inculcated simplicity in them and taught them  that true reward comes with hard work. Tending to sheep may be a menial and low task but it is from ground zero that great leaders develop.

6. The Command of Allah and human logic
Ibrahim Alayhis Salaamhad two choices :  to follow the cry of his heart or to submit to the call of  his Creator. He chose to submit. There was no logic in killing his own son,  Ismail, for no apparent reason. Ismail had not committed any sin or major wrong.  But, this was a command from Allah which needed to be followed whether it  conformed to logic or not. Eid-ul-Adha hinges on the spirit of surrender and submission to the divine call. A true Muslim accepts every command of his Creator without question and without searching for  loopholes.

7. Spirit and Body
If we look at any form of worship in Islam it has  deep spiritual and moral significance. When we sacrifice an animal it should be done for the pleasure of Allah only. Allah wants to see what the heart contains.

It is not their flesh nor their blood that  reaches Allah, but it is your piety that reaches Him…” (Surah Hajj)

8. Qurbani teaches sacrifice
When Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam chose to sacrifice his son he taught us the golden lesson that love for Allah in a man's heart should be stronger than the love for himself, his family and his emotions. It is a  reminder that Islam teaches sacrifice and hard work as opposed to a life of endless pleasure and comfort.

9. Worship must be of superior quality
Islam teaches us to sacrifice animals of the best  quality. They should be free from faults and defects.  An animal that is  blind, lame or has a structural defect from birth is not suitable for sacrifice. This teaches us that our relationship with Allah must be of a superior quality. We should not give a sub-standard effort. When we have to meet for an important business meeting we make sure that we dress perfectly, speak perfectly and focus our  attention perfectly so that nothing important is missed. When we are in Salaah we should similarly be at peak performance. Our dress, recitation of Quraan and  concentration should be perfect. Similarly, in all our acts of ibaadah like Haj,  Zakaah, Sadaqah, etc, we should strive for  perfection.

NOTE:
I found many different versions of the 99 names. The above 99 are on a poster I have. Another list includes Al-Mu'tiy - The Bestower, The Giver and does not have Al-Ahad - The One. Another list did not have Al-Razzaaq -The Sustainer, The Provider but did have Al-Maajid The Noble, The One who is Majid.
Allah (subhanahu wa ta`ala)'s names are not limited to 99, which is a common misconception. There are a couple of evidences, one is the du`aa where one calls upon Allah by the names He (subhanahu wa ta`ala) has kept to Himself (obviously not taking these names since Allah has not revealed them to us); another is the fact that in the narrations of the famous ninety nine names hadith that do contain 99 names, the names are not consistent between narrations (for example, imam al-bayhaqi reports two versions of this hadith, with different 99 names in each). It is suggested by one commentator that the names were not explicitly stated by the rasul (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam).

What do Muslims believe about Allah
Allah (God)
Islam is the complete submission and obedience to Allah (God). The name Allah (God) in Islam never refers to Muhammad (peace be upon him), as many Christians may think; Allah is the personal name of God.
What do Muslims believe about Allah?
1. He is the one God, Who has no partner.
2. Nothing is like Him. He is the Creator, not created, nor a part of His creation.
3. He is All-Powerful, absolutely Just.
4. There is no other entity in the entire universe worthy of worship besides Him.
