Loving and Kissing In Islam.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 11, Number 677:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

The Prophet said, "When I start the prayer I intend to prolong it, but on hearing the cries of a child, I cut short the prayer because I know that the cries of the child will incite its mother's passions."

So the prophet Muhammed (PBUH) would shorten a prayer for the feelings of a mother, the feelings of a mother to a child. As we all know, many mothers often tend to their children when they hear them crying, so the prophet Muhammed (PBUH) would purposely shorten the prayer on hearing the cries of a child, so the mother could tend to her child, and so the mother would need not worry! What a lovely example of compassion and mercy, if only most humans could care to think of such compassion, then this world would be a much better place.

Other examples of the prophet Muhammed’s (PBUH) compassion come from the following hadiths:

Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 26:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them," Allah's Apostle cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 27:

Narrated 'Aisha:

A bedouin came to the Prophet and said, "You (people) kiss the boys! We don't kiss them." The Prophet said, "I cannot put mercy in your heart after Allah has taken it away from it."

The prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was shocked that some of the people were not kind and loving to their children, such as kissing them etc. So the prophet Muhammed (PBUH) made it very clear, that if one does not show mercy, then he will not be shown mercy neither, essentially the prophet was linking mercy with the way we treat our children, showing them affection and love.

The prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was a very loving kind compassionate man for his children, and grand children, he would make them sit on his lap, kiss them and make them feel loved, and this is what children want, they want to feel love and affection from their family, whether it be their father, or grand father.

The prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was also very compassionate for his people, always wanting to help them, as we see from the following hadiths:

Narrated Abu Said: Some people from the Ansar asked Allah's Apostle (to give them something) and he gave to everyone of them, who asked him, until all that he had was finished. When everything was finished and he had spent all that was in his hand, he said to them, '"(Know) that if I have any wealth, I will not withhold it from you (to keep for somebody else); And (know) that he who refrains from begging others (or doing prohibited deeds), Allah will make him contented and not in need of others; and he who remains patient, Allah will bestow patience upon him, and he who is satisfied with what he has, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And there is no gift better and vast (you may be given) than patience." (Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 8, Book 76, Number 477)

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Not even a single Dinar of my property should be distributed (after my deaths to my inheritors, but whatever I leave excluding the provision for my wives and my servants, should be spent in charity." (Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 8, Book 80, Number 721)

Narrated Malik bin Aus Al-Hadathan An-Nasri: ..But by Allah, the Prophet neither took it all for himself only, nor deprived you of it, but he gave it to all of you and distributed it amongst you till only this remained out of it. And from this Allah's Apostle used to spend the yearly maintenance for his family, and whatever used to remain, he used to spend it where Allah's Property is spent (i.e. in charity), Allah's Apostle kept on acting like that during all his life. (Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 5, Book 59, Number 367)

Narrated 'Uqba bin Al-Harith: I offered the 'Asr prayer with the Prophet and after finishing the prayer with Taslim he got up quickly and went to some of his wives and then came out. He noticed the signs of astonishment on the faces of the people caused by his speed. He then said, "I remembered while I was in my prayer that a piece of gold was Lying in my house and I disliked that it should remain with us throughout the night, and so I have ordered it to be distributed."  (Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 2, Book 22, Number 312)

The Quran
 
1. “We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents; in pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth”
Quran:-(46:15).
 
2. “Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say:
 ‘My Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood’ “(17:23-24).
 
 The Hadith:-
 1. The Prophet Muhammad said, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him: Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother (Ahmad, Nasai).
 
2. A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?
The Prophet(sallahu alayhe was salaam) said: Your mother.
The man said, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet (sallahu alayhe wa salaam)said:
 Then your mother.
 
The man further asked, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet (sallahu alayhe wa salaam)said: -Then your mother.
 
 The man asked again, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet (sallahu alayhe wa salaam)said: -
Then your father.
 
Bukhari, Muslim .
 
 
3. Abu Usaid Saidi said:
We were once sitting with Rasulullah when a man from the tribe of Salmah came and said to him: O Messenger of Allah! do my parents have rights over me even after they have died? And Rasulullah said: Yes. You must pray to Allah to bless them with His Forgiveness and Mercy, fulfill the promises they made to anyone, and respect their relations and their friends .
 
Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah.
 
4. It is narrated by Asma bint Abu Bakr that during the treaty of Hudaibiyah, her mother, who was then pagan, came to see her from Makkah. Asma informed the Messenger of Allah (sallahu alayhe was salaam)of her arrival and also that she needed help.
He sallahu alayhe was salaam said:
Be good to your mother .
 
(Bukhari, Muslim).

The teachings of the Holy Qur'an for the Child to follow during his life is: "Your Lord (Allah) has ordained that you should worship none except Him and show kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them attain to old age with you, say not 'Fie' unto them nor reproach them but speak to them a gracious word. And lower unto them the wing of submission through mercy (defer humbly to them out of tenderness) and pray: My Lord, have mercy on them both as they nurtured me when I was little." (Qur'an 17:23-24)

"And we (Allah) have enjoined upon man (to be good) to his parents: His mother bears him in weakness upon weakness.." Qur'an 31:14)

"We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents: In pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth.." (Qur'an 46:59)
