Wonders of Love

A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

سألوها: هل رب البيت موجود؟
" Is the man of the house in home ?" they asked .

فأجابت :لا، إنه بالخارج.
" No ", she replied . " He's out ."

فردوا: إذن لا يمكننا الدخول.
"Then we cannot come in", they replied .

Three Best Friends

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, no one is a (perfect) believer until he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he wishes for himself.” [Bukhari]

There once lived three men who were the very best of friends for the pleasure of Allah. One of the friends, Waqidi, related:

“I had two friends, a Hashimite and a non-Hashimite, and we were very close to each other, like three inseparable companions. I did not have much money and when the day of Eid approached, my wife said to me, ‘We can be patient at all times, but I cannot bear to see my children weeping and crying. I feel as though my heart would break, when I see them in rags, while other children are buying new clothes and other fine things for Eid. If you could get me some money for Eid, I would sew new clothes for them.’

Read Prophet Muhammad's letters that he sent to various rulers...

 Assalamu-Alaikum and Greetings !

Letters sent by the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) to kings and rulers inviting them to Islam

We learn from Sahih Bukhari that late in the six year A.H., on his return from Hudaibiyah, Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.), decided to send messages to the kings and rulers beyond Arabia calling them to Islam. In order to authenticate the credentials of his envoys, a silver seal was made in which were graven the words: “Muhammad the Messenger of Allâh”

Below, you will find two posts with the contents of those letters. The first letter was send to Negus (also referred to as Najashi), while the second post is about the letter that he sent to Cyrus Al-Muqawqas (the Coptic Vicegerent in Egypt). The posts also include the response sent by those rulers to the prophet (s.a.w.s.).

Valuable is Covered

Aisha (radi Allahu anha) narrated: “Asma (radi Allahu anha) came to see the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam). She was wearing a thin dress. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) turned away from her and said, ‘O Asma, once a woman reaches the age of puberty no part of her body should be uncovered except her face and hands.’” [Abu Dawud]

Once Muhammad Ali's daughters came to visit him wearing clothes that were not modest. His daughter narrates:

“When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father's suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged as many hugs and kisses as we possibly could in one day.

“My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, ‘Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to. Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You've got to work hard to get to them.’

“He looked at me with serious eyes. ‘Your body is sacred. You're far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.’” [More Than a Hero: Muhammad Ali's Life Lessons Presented Through His Daughter's Eyes]

Niqab Ban in the University of Moratuwa: A Victim Student Tells Her Story

by Fathima Sahar

My name is Fathima Sahar, a first year student at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa. I am one of three students who are affected by the ban on the niqab by the University. I thought of writing this because our side of story has been literally ‘veiled’ away from the public. The media that reported the issue only spoke to the University authorities and did not contact us. The University too, that is so eager to see our faces did not want to hear our voices, ideas and thoughts. Before they decided to ban the niqab – the University did not trouble itself to give us a hearing, to discuss, to find a solution to whatever problem they perceived.

In that sense, the way we have been treated is no different to the way many of our sisters in many other contexts are treated. Women and their voices are hardly allowed to be heard but kept muted and suppressed. And in that sense at least, I feel it is my duty to speak up and speak out.

I was born in a refugee camp. My parents are from Mannar and were victims of the ethnic cleansing of the Northern Muslims by the LTTE in 1990. Like most refugee students I saw a University education as a passport to a better future and a means for empowerment to fight against the type of injustices that my parents suffered. So my journey from Puttalam to Moratuwa was hard and difficult yet it was inspired by the hope of something better.

Shaikh Yasir Qadhi on Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela has returned to his Creator.

The Prophet (SAW) praised Mut`im b. Adi because he was a man who stood up for what was right, and helped the downtrodden Muslim community at a time when the Quraysh was guilty of the height of injustice.

It is my opinion that if there was one man in our time who truly embodied that spirit of Mut`ims struggle, it was Nelson Mandela. Of the rewards that Allah gives a person in this life is respect and fame, and it is very likely that the genuine love all felt towards him was a result of his sincere efforts to help the weak and oppressed of his nation, and fight the unjust, tyrannical, inhumane and un-Islamic notion of white supremacy and Apartheid.

Another benefit that we as Muslims can derive from Nelson Mandela's life is that truth shall always win in the end. For much of his life, Mandela was labelled a terrorist (even by the US and UK). Eventually, he won the Nobel prize and became his country's president. 'Terrorists' are relative, and when one is fighting for the truth, in a legitimate and Islamic manner, eventually his cause shall be victorious, even if the opposers of truth despise it.

May Allah guide us all to truth, humility and sincere action.

Muslim Women Going Out!!

“And remain in your homes” are the words of Allah (swt) addressed to the believing women and the wives of the Prophet (saw). The word in the Ayah, “qarna” means to remain and adhere. Allah has ordered the woman to adhere, to stay, and not merely to it, in her home. She should accustom herself to staying home and not going out. And if she does go out she should feel uncomfortable in doing so.

Affairs outside our home can be harmful as well as Haram. Would you even think that going shopping could fall into this? Don't be surprised. Islam directs that a woman is primarily meant to remain in her home. She may come out for her needs. If she goes out, according to the conditions of the Shariah, for a need which her husband cannot fulfil for her, then there is nothing against that. But, sometimes we fall into a western mentality of role sharing. Now there is nothing wrong with a husband helping his wife out and vice-versa.

However, a woman taking over responsibilities of the husband with the intention of “making things easier on him” is skirting on the questionable. This is particularly so when we talk of shopping and other such needed but not always necessary tasks. A better way would be to organise herself and her household affairs and that of her children by simplifying her lifestyle and cutting back on the unnecessary.

The Social Aspect of Women in Islam:

As a Mother:

(1)  The Quran elevates kindness to parents (especially mothers) to a status second to the worship of God:

{Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to your parents.  If one of them or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of disrespect, or scold them, but say a generous word to them.  And act humbly to them in mercy, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, since they cared for me when I was small.” } (Quran, 17:23-24, see also 31:14, 46:15, and 29:8)

(2)  Naturally, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) specified this behavior for his followers, rendering to mothers an unequalled status in human relationships.  A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)  and said, “O Messenger of God!  Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?”  The Prophet (pbuh)  said: {Your mother.}  The man said, “Then who?”  The Prophet (pbuh)  said: {Then your mother.}  The man further asked, “Then who?”  The Prophet (pbuh)  said: {Then your mother.}  The man asked again, “Then who?”  The Prophet (pbuh)  said: {Then your father.}

Worst of Ummah

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The worst of my Ummah are those who indulge in delights; those who eat all different kinds of food, and wear all different kinds of clothing, and are loose in their speech.” [Al-Jaami as-Sagheer min Hadeeth al-Basheer an-Nadheer by Imaam As-Suyooti]

Why?

A country sends an ambassador to another country to improve bilateral relations, enhance trade ties, and so on. Suppose the ambassador becomes engrossed in sightseeing and enjoying the local cuisine and culture, at the cost of his official duties, while the whole time on his government’s expenditure. What do you think will happen to him when he returns to his country?

Similarly, if we don't fulfill the duties we were sent to earth for, then we will not be appreciated by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) when we return to Him. That is why the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) mentioned what he did about the worst of his Ummah – because, their focus is not on fulfilling the responsibilities of the office they were entrusted with, but on enjoying themselves.

Life Bakes a Cake

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "If Allah loves a people, then He tests them.” [Al-Jaami as-Sagheer by Imaam As-Suyooti]

A little boy was telling his Grandma how "everything" was going wrong – trouble at school, problems with relatives, health, friends...

Meanwhile, Grandma was baking a cake. She asked her grandson if he would like a snack, which, of course, he did.

"Here, have some cooking oil."

"Yuck" said the boy.

"How about a couple of raw eggs?"

"Gross, Grandma!"

"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"

"Grandma, those are all yucky!"

Grandma replied: "Yes, all those things taste bad on their own, but when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!”

Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But each of life’s troubles and each period of affliction is an ingredient that will prepare the most wonderful Paradise. As the raw cake needs to be baked, we need to exercise patience, and steadfastness on Allah’s chosen religion, in order to harvest the fruit of the trouble.

Smile to Make Your Children Happy

Lines from the diary of a child speaking about his happy childhood,

"My father was always cheerful and his smile never left his face, even in the most difficult situations. This smile meant a great deal to us as it revealed how much our father loves us. This smile used to force us to behave properly and avoid mistakes so as not to anger our father and miss his smile even for a second. My father’s smile was the source of our psychological balance. It provided us with warmth, confidence, frankness and courage in the face of hardships. May Allaah reward him with the best."

Protagonists of the frowning approach:

Some parents and educators adopt the frowning method in dealing with their children. Hence, they avoid speaking with them cordially or smiling at them. They believe that there should be strict limits between parents and their children so that they can succeed in their upbringing.

A Feast for Clothes

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The worst of food is the food at the wedding feast from which one who comes is turned away, and he who refuses it is invited.” [Muslim]

Once upon a time in the city of Shiraz there lived a famous poet, Sheikh Saadi. Like most other poets, Sheikh Saadi was not a rich man. He led a very simple life. A rich merchant of Shiraz invited Sheikh Saadi along with a lot of other big businessmen of the town to his daughter's marriage which was to be a grand affair. Sheikh Saadi accepted the invitation and decided to attend.

On the day of the wedding, the host and his family were receiving the guests at the gate. They were ushering them towards the dining hall. All the rich people of the town had come, in their best attires. Sheikh Saadi had simple clothes on which were neither grand nor expensive. He waited in a corner for someone to approach him but no one gave him as much as a second glance. Even the host did not acknowledge him and looked away.

Top 10 Most Precocious Children

I love my kids. I think they’re great. They can do some stuff, like counting to 20 and waving bye-bye. But that’s nothing compared to some kids – there are children out there who can recite the Qur’an, or win Olympic medals when they’re still in high school. This kind of success doesn’t come easily, and behind every outstanding child, there tends to be a pushy parent. And in front of every outstanding child there tends to be a difficult adulthood. So, who can blame those pushy parents for shoving their children into the spotlight before they turn into rebellious adults? Find out which tots and teens are currently enjoying their moment in the sun in our Top 10 Most Precocious Children.

10. Suri Cruise

Let’s start with the most high-profile 7-year-old in the fashion world. Born to Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, she was famous at first for never being seen in public, so protective was Cruise over the baby. How things have changed – not only is Suri regularly snapped in public, in a number of on-trend outfits, but she is now launching her own fashion range.. At the age of 7, yes.

It’s not impossible that the fashion range is a result of her famous parentage, rather than her childrenswear expertise, but it’s said that she has a good eye for design and has been sketching out ideas. There may also be a stylist involved in the project somewhere. But, at an age where most girls are still traipsing around in their mother’s high heels, Suri is making money from fashion. Remarkable, hey?

You look at me and call me oppressed,

You look at me and call me oppressed,
Simply because of the way I'm dressed,

You know me not for what is inside,
You judge the clothing I wear with pride,

My body is not for your eyes to hold,
You must speak to my mind, not my feminine mould,

I'm an individual. I'm no man's slave,
It's Allah's pleasure that I only crave,

I have a voice so I will be heard,
For in my heart I carry His word,

"O ye women, wrap close your cloak,
So you won't be bothered by ignorant folk".

Women Can Work Out Too!

The first image that comes to mind when questioned about women weight lifting is a big, hulky, muscular, frown-faced, intimidating person, according to some female students at EdCC.

Almost all of the students interviewed believe that women should not weight lift, in order to retain their feminine figure, and that those who do will end up extremely buff. Most women's fears, according to Janet Guenther, P.E. teacher at EdCC and ex-bodybuilder, are that they will lose their femininity with increased muscle mass.

However the image of a woman if she works out is misconstrued. Guenther has said that there's a certain limit for women to increase their muscle mass compared to a guy.

A woman's body won't be able to increase muscle mass to the point of becoming a big and hulky person that most people imagine when it comes to a female weight lifting.

Life Spicy

Ups and downs make our life spicy
To keep on laughing or weeping
Would make it icy
As though a sprinter started creeping

After quarreling with your beewi(wife)
Balancing yourself is an art
Read a novel, sing song or watch TV
Do something to comfort your heart

Fears and tears
Sometimes we may allow
But there should also be cheers
To make our life mellow

We know not the what and when of a feeling
But entertain not these guests for long
For they may damage us beyond healing
And make our life forlorn

Reason walks hand in hand with passion
Like neocortex and amygdala
Never be servile to intellect or emotion
For life then would lose its tala

An Aristocrat’s Advice

When the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam)was asked which woman was best he replied, "The one who pleases (her husband) when he looks at her, obeys him when he gives a command, and does not go against his wishes regarding her person or property by doing anything of which he disapproves." [Nasai in Shu'ab al-Iman]

“Awf ibn Muhallim al-Shaybani one of the most highly respected leaders of the Arab nobility during Jahiliyyah married his daughter Umm Iyas to al-Harith ibn Amr al-Kindi. As she was being prepared to be taken to the groom her mother, Umamah, came to advise her and said:

Are You Getting Enough Fiber in Your Diet?

Fiber is an essential part of a healthy diet and vital for your body to function properly. fiber helps the digestive system to process food and absorb nutrients. However, it is not something the body can absorb - this means that it is not a nutrient and contains no vitamins.

Fiber is obtained from plant-based foods. There are two types of fiber: insoluble and soluble.

Insoluble Fiber

Insoluble fiber contains the compounds cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. These help the bowel to pass food by making stools soft and bulky. This type of fiber helps prevent constipation.

Opposing Oppression & being politically active or Purifying yourself from sin and becoming closer to Allah?

By:
Sajid Iqbal

Today we have some Muslims who believe the role of Muslims is only to oppose and speak out against oppression by being politically active. They oppose and ridicule Muslims who don't do this. They despise Muslims who just want to focus on being better Muslims by purifying themselves from sin and evil. They ridicule Muslims who focus on just worship like prayer, zikr and religious rituals.

We also have some Muslims who believe the role of Muslims is only to become better Muslims by becoming closer to God and purifying themselves from sin and evil. They focus on prayer, remembrance of God, increasing their knowledge about Islam. They don't believe in politics. They don't believe or promote the idea of being politically active, to speak out against oppression and persecution, to defend the Deen from Islamophobia and speak out against occupation and attacks against the Ummah.

Both are following Islam selectively. They are not following the teachings and practise of the Prophet (pbuh) completely. If they did they would know that the role of the Muslims is to do BOTH:
1) Speaking out against oppression, persecution, occupation and being politically active to defend the deen is COMPULSORY.
2) Becoming a better Muslim, a practising Muslim, praying, acts of worship, purifying yourself from sin, increasing knowledge of the Deen and being a walking, talking advert for Islam is also COMPULSORY.
**IT'S NOT ABOUT ONE OR THE OTHER. IT'S COMPULSORY TO DO BOTH**

Here is a photo of Thirukural couplet  displayed in French in a train in France. It also mentions Thiruvalluvar's name .We  know Thirukural Tamil couplets are displayed in the Tamil Nadu state buses. Now a French Translation of the couplet is found in a train in France .This is yet another honour for Tamil. Why the Peshawar & Nairobi attacks are un-Islamic

Islam does not allow taking revenge by attacking innocent people. In fact, the concept of revenge itself is un-Islamic, says Maulana Wahiuddin Khan

In just the last couple of days, there have been two deadly attacks orchestrated by self-styled Muslims, killing many people—the attack on a church in Peshawar and a shopping mall in Nairobi. Attacks on, and persecution of, non-Muslim minorities have escalated in recent years in many Muslim-majority countries.

These attacks are nothing but an expression of frustration. The fact is that in the first half of the twentieth century, some Muslims started a struggle against their so-called enemies. But they completely failed in this endeavour. They then tried to destabilise their supposed enemies. What happened on 9/11 was an act of this kind. However, they failed in achieving anything there as well. Now, they have chosen soft targets, like churches and malls. Such acts only show the extent of their frustration. The only cause for these attacks can be found in these Muslims’ deep frustration due to their total failure. The time has now come for Muslims to take a U-turn. Taking a U-turn means accepting one’s own mistakes, but many Muslim leaders do not have the courage to openly accept their mistakes.

Islam: a religion of peace and justice

Islam is a religion of peace in the fullest sense of the word. The Quran calls its way "…The ways of peace…" [Quran: 5:16] It describes reconciliation as the best policy [Quran: 4:128], and states that God abhors any disturbance of peace [Quran: 2:205]

The root word of Islam is 'Silm', which means peace. So the spirit of Islam is the spirit of peace. The first
verse of the Quran breathes the spirit of peace; it reads: "In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate."

This verse is repeated in the Quran no less than 114 times. It shows the great importance Islam attaches to such values as Mercy and Compassion. One of God's names, according to the Quran, is As-Salaam, which means Peace. Moreover, the Quran states that the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) was sent to the world as a mercy to mankind. [Quran: 21:107]

A perusal of the Quran shows that most verses of the Quran (and also the Hadeeth) are based on peace and kindness, either directly or indirectly. The ideal society, according to the Quran is Dar As-Salaam, that is, the house of peace [Quran: 10:25]

Forgive Me Allah (Heart Touching)

Here I am, this is me,
Just a weak, really weak
Human being,
In front of you my beloved,
I am here,
With a heart bleeding, with tears dropping,
With a body shivering, with pain exploding,
Asking you for forgiveness and mercy,
Oh Allah,
Sometimes my life may be corrupted and rough,
Sometimes my tests and journeys get so tough,
But for the sake of you,
It will never be enough!
What have I done to come closer to you Allah?
All what I have done is worth nothing!
And when I give up just a small thing for your sake,
You give me something better in its place!
But, what can I do?
In front of you, oh Allah,
Shouldn’t I have shame?
Shouldn’t I keep putting on myself blame?
I look at all the things you gave me,
And it’s sad to say,

10 Strange Facts About The Quran

Though it proved very controversial in the Islamic world, Saddam Hussein commissioned a copy of the Quran written in his own blood. But there are plenty more fascinating (if less creepy) pieces of knowledge centering around this book. Muslims make up over 1.5 billion of the planet’s population, so it stands to reason that there’s a lot of Quran-based knowledge out there.

10 The World’s Biggest Quran

In 2008, Sayeed Najmul Hasan Chishti from India took the world record for creating the largest handwritten Quran.  Then in 2009, the record was being eyed by a teenager writing for 12 hours a day to produce a Quran 3,000 meters (about 1,000 ft) long. If she finished, no one noticed because the world record was taken in 2011 by a Quran in Russia. Weighing 1,763 pounds, this massive book was encrusted in gold and silver and a smattering of precious stones.

After all that effort, it probably hurt when the new world’s largest Qur'an was unveiled in Afghanistan a couple of months later. Clearly, the quest to have the world’s largest is hard-fought, and a lot of people are putting a lot of effort into claiming it (someone should probably tell them about the 18-meter (60 ft) Qur'an that is part of a building in South Sumatra). There are a lot of large Qur'ans, is what we’re saying.

Chia Seeds: An Excellent Source of Omega-3 Fats and More

Chia seeds are tiny seeds which are packed with essential fatty acids, protein, fiber and many health-protective antioxidants. In fact, weight for weight, these super-seeds provide twice the protein of any other seed or grain, five times the calcium of milk, and an inexpensive, safe and high quality source of omega-3 fatty acids.

The Importance of omega-3

Omega-3 is one of the "essential fatty acids" we need in our diets. It is essential because our bodies cannot manufacture it - it has to be obtained from our diet.

Fish is a great dietary source of omega-3, but sea life has been exposed to many toxins. Flax seeds or flax seed oil is a good inexpensive, safe source of omega-3, but chia seeds are more convenient and even higher in omega-3, and are also more easily digestible when whole, than flax seeds.

Al-Mumin

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) taught us to ask: “Allahummas tur-auraati wa aamin row-aati.” [Abu Dawud]

This is a Dua in which we ask Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) to conceal all our defects and exchange our state of fear and worry with peace and security.

A pious man living in Baghdad was strolling by the Tigris when he noticed a scorpion scurrying along the bank in front on him. He thought to himself that this is also a creation of Allah’s and nothing Allah has created is without purpose. Wondering where it had come from, where it was going and for what purpose, he decided to follow it and find out.

The scorpion walked a while then turned towards the river and waited at its edge. Presently a turtle came swimming towards the scorpion. The scorpion jumped onto its back and the turtle started swimming back across the river with the scorpion riding on it. Since the pious man had decided to follow the scorpion he rented a boat and began to follow the turtle.

Do Christians, Muslims and Jews worship the same God?

Opinion by Jeffrey Weiss, Special to CNN

(CNN) – Sunni and Shia Muslims  are killing each other in several nations, most notably in Syria's escalating civil war.

Coptic Christians churches are being torched in Egypt.
In Israel, what passes for peace talks has restarted after years of murder and brutality.

Religion is a common thread in each conflict. But why? Don’t these folks worship the same deity?

After all, Jews, Christians and Muslims all trace their faiths back to a fellow named Abraham, whom they all claim was chosen for special treatment by the Almighty. Why can’t they all get along?

Not academic

The “same God” question is one theologians have hammered at for as long as there have been enough religions for the query to make sense.

Dr Abdullah and his unfulfilled wishes..!

Pall of gloom and sadness has descended on the hearts of multitudes of Muslims of Tamil Nadu with the sad news of the death of Dr Abdullah former Periyar Dasan on Monday. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajeewoon).

Dr Abdullah had been known as Periyar Dasan and was a legendery Dravidian leader, orator, author, psychologist, professor of philosophy and above all a diehard Islamist.

He had many wishes, desires which remained unfulfilled. He had wanted to translate the mater-piece of Seerah literature "Muhammad, the prophet of Islam" by Mohammad Haykal in Tamil. He had shared this dream with his friends many times. He wanted to write a book on his journey towards Islam. He wanted to write on psychology with Islamic perspective. He was of the view that the western thoughts and works on human mind had got entrapped in Nafs-e-Ammara alone. Very few ventured into Nafs-e-Lawaama.. And none of them had tasted the bliss of Nafs-e-Mutmainna. He wanted to write on it. He was of the opinion that the paramount problem facing the modern man is more psychological than material. We have to liberate the mankind from the clutches of Nafs-e-Ammara more than anything else, he would assert. He wanted to write a series of articles on this subject in Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly. I had suggested a title Alai paayum manasu..! (Wavering Mind.. Behaktaa dil..) He got excited with the title and liked it very much. Alas, that wish too was not materialised..!
