How to Limit Efffects of Bisphenol-A Upon Children

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic chemical used widely in plastic packaging. It uses including water bottles, baby bottles, dental fillings and sealants, dental devices, medical devices, eyeglass lenses, DVDs and CDs, household electronic and sports equipment. BPA can also be found in epoxy resins which is used as coatings inside food and drinks cans. Evidence has mounted over the years that this chemical is detrimental to the body's biochemistry. Once BPA is in our bodies, it imitates hormones such as estrogen and becomes an "endocrine disruptor" and may fool the body by stimulating reactions that are unnecessary and potentially harmful. In the past, public health authorities have considered BPA to be safe based upon what they assumed to be safe levels. However, many recent studies have indicated that these safety levels no longer reflect the reality. What follows are some tips on how to limit the effects of this harmful chemical on your children:

UAE towers high among world's tallest buildings

Burj Mohammad Bin Rashid in Abu Dhabi was second tallest building completed last year
By Parag Deulgaonkar
Middle East saw completion of 11 hi-rises, or 11 per cent of the global total. According to CTBUH, the number of tall buildings around the world reached a new record last year, with 97 buildings completed that soar over 200 meters in height. (Aldar)

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, saw completion of two hi-rises in 2014 with the 381-meters Burj Mohammad Bin Rashid (formerly World Trade Center Abu Dhabi – The Residences) becoming the second tallest building to be completed worldwide last year, according to Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

Tall Buildings

Narrated Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu): Allah’s Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “The Hour will not be established till …the people compete with one another in constructing high buildings…” [Sahih Bukhari]

Thus, competing in the construction of tall buildings is one of the signs of the Day of Judgement. In a hadith recorded in Sahih Muslim, Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told us that “you shall see barefoot, naked, penniless shepherds vying in constructing high buildings.” This hadith describes people who become rich all of a sudden and then build not for need but only in competition.

Meet the Muslim Woman Awarded US Professor of the Year 2015

By Hasna Mokhtar,

I never knew chemistry could be a source of happiness, excitement and create positively critical citizens until I heard it from Collin College Professor Dr. Amina El-Ashmawy.

Her unique relationship with Chemistry not only makes her a passionate mentor, but also earned her the title 2015 U.S. Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

She is a published author, a trusted adviser in the American Chemical Society and serves on countless task forces. She also holds an associate degree from Kilgore College, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of North Texas.

El-Ashmawy’s website welcomes readers with an intriguing quote. She cites American chemist Linus Pauling saying, “I feel sorry for people who don’t understand anything about chemistry. They are missing an important source of happiness.”

So what is it about chemistry that delights El-Ashmawy?

“Having an understanding of chemistry allows you to see the beauty of everything around you at a deeper level and be more critical of information presented,” El-Ashmawy told us.

After Zuckerberg, Google’s Sundar Pichai vouches for Muslims

New York, Dec 12 : After Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has come out in support of Muslims, saying that we must support Muslim and other minority communities in the US and around the world.

Responding to a recent wave of prejudice against Muslims – especially in the wake of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump asking for a ban on Muslims entering the US — the Indian-born top Google executive reiterated his own experience and said let us not let fear defeat our values.

“I came to the US from India 22 years ago. I was fortunate enough to gain entry to a university here, and time after time, I saw that hard work opened other doors. I have built a career and a family and a life here. And I’ve felt as much a part of this country, as I felt growing up in India,” he posted on the social message platform Medium on Saturday.

Tamil Nadu Floods: Extraordinary examples of Muslim relief workers

By Abu Namara

A Hindu family in Chennai has named their newly born baby as Yunus in tribute to a Muslim savior.

As one of several brilliant instances of humanity seen in the recent floods in Chennai and in other parts of Tamil Nadu, an MBA graduate Yunus saved Tuesday a pregnant lady of Urapakkam locality in South Chennai where the flood waters were flowing above human heights and helped her admitted in time for safe delivery. As homage to this rare act of benignity, the parents named their child on the messiah who selflessly came forward and salvaged the mother in her dire need.

Former curator of Pudukottai Government Museum Dr. J. Raja Mohamedcomments on how we allow our awareness of our past to shape our present

“If we want communal harmony, we must have a proper history to be taught to the people, and the younger generation in particular,” says J. Raja Mohamed.

Having spent over three decades in Tamil Nadu State Department of Museums - first as the Curator of the Pudukottai Government Museum from 1968 to 2003 and retiring as Assistant Director of Museums, Chennai in 2004 - Dr. Mohamed is amply qualified to comment on how we allow our awareness of our past to shape our present.

In a way, Dr. Raja Mohamed’s home in Pudukottai’s Jeeva Nagar neighbourhood is like a museum too, a repository of books from all over the world and his own writings (he is the author of around 10 books in Tamil and English on local history and has published over 100 research papers in art, architecture and history).

THE BLACK SEED

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE BLACK SEED

History of the Black Seed
For over two thousand years the black seed, a plant from the Ranunculaceae (buttercup) family, has been traditionally used by various cultures throughout the world as a natural remedy for several diseases and ailments and to improve health in general.

The ancient Egyptians knew and used the black seed and described it as a panacea (cure for problems and diseases). Tutankamun even had a bottle of the oil in his tomb!

The Romans also knew this seed and called it Greek Coriander and used it as a dietary supplement.

In the first century, the Greek physician Dioscoredes recorded that the black seed were taken to treat headaches, nasal congestion, toothache and intestinal worms.

The black seed is also mentioned in the Bible in Isiah 28:25-27 as the ‘fitches’. Ibn Senna, known in the West as Avicenna, who wrote the great medical treatise 'The Canon of Medicine', referred to the black seed as the seed ‘that stimulates the body's energy and helps recovery from fatigue’.

Eating in Seven Intestines

Narrated Nafi: Ibn Umar never used to take his meal unless a poor man was called to eat with him. One day I brought a poor man to eat with him. The man ate way too much, whereupon Ibn Umar said, "O Nafi! Don't let this man enter my house, for I heard the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) saying, 'A believer eats in one intestine (is satisfied with a little food), and a kafir (disbeliever) eats in seven intestines (eats much food)." [Sahih Bukhari]

In other ahadith hypocrites are mentioned, along with Kuffar, as eating in seven intestines. The reality of the matter is that hypocrites are also Kuffar. The difference is that hypocrites pretend to be Muslims and only Allah knows their reality, while the reality of those who openly disbelieve (Kuffar) is known to all.

We can note from this hadith that the illustrious Sahabah did not even like hypocrites to enter their homes, so distasteful was their hypocrisy to the pious and so distant did they want to stay from the evil of hypocrisy.

It also makes sense, when we learn of such ahadith, why Muslim parents tell their children not to eat too much at others homes and avoid doing so themselves too.

Pick up the Food you Drop

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “When a morsel of any of you falls, he should pick it up and remove any of the dirt on it and then eat it, and should not leave it for Shaitaan...” [Sahih Muslim]

This hadith tells us to pick up a fallen dry morsel of food and eat it after brushing off any dirt that might be on it. This is an expression of humility and also prevents Shaitaan from deriving blessings from our food.

Present-day Muslims hardly care for this directive of the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) thinking that picking up dropped food will bring disgrace and dishonour upon them. To make matters worse, some even throw away unconsumed food in the garbage, while others deem it necessary to leave a little food in their plates as a sign of their manners or affluence! How far the Muslim community has departed from the teachings and excellent example of their Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam)!

Rise and Fall of Muslim Scientists

Ibrahim B. Syed, Ph. D.
INTRODUCTION

The rise of the Muslims to the zenith of civilization in a period of four decades was based on Al-Islam's emphasis on learning. This is obvious when one takes a look at the Qur'an and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad(SAS) which are filled with references to learning, education, observation, and the use of Reason. The very first verse of the Qur'an revealed to the Prophet Of Al-Islam (SAS) on the night of power (Laylathul Qadr) in the month of Ramadan in 611 AD reads:

"Read: In the name of thy Lord who created man from a clot.

Read: And they Lord is the Most Generous Who taught by the pen,

Taught man that which he knew not." Surah Al-Alaq, 96:1-5

"And they shall say had we but listened or used reason, we

Would not among the inmates of the burning fire." Al Mulk, 67:10

"Are those who have knowledge and those who have no knowledge

Alike? Only the men of understanding are mindful." Al Zumar, 39:9.

The Qur'an exhorts the Muslims to do scientific research:

" And whoso bringeth the truth and believeth therein such are

the dutiful." Surah Al Zumar, 39:33

Every Muslim man's and every Muslim woman's prayer should be:

"My Lord! Enrich me with knowledge." Surah TA HA, 20:114.

The pursuit of knowledge and the use of reason, based on sense

of observation is made obligatory on every Muslim man and woman.

The following traditions of the Prophet(SAS) supplement the

foregoing teachings of the Qur'an in the following way:

(1) Seek knowledge "even though it be in China."

(2) "The acquisition of knowledge is compulsory for every

Muslim, whether male or female."

(3) "The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of

the martyr."

(4) "Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave."

(5) "God has revealed to me, 'Whoever walks in the pursuit of

knowledge I facilitate for him the way to heaven.'

(6) "The best form of worship is the pursuit of knowledge."

(7) "Scholars should endeavor to spread knowledge and provide

education to people who have been deprived of it. For,

where knowledge is hidden it disappears."

(8) Some one asked the Prophet(SAS): "Who is the biggest

scholar?" He replied: "He who is constantly trying to

learn from others, for a scholar is every hungry for more

knowledge."

(9) "Seek for knowledge and wisdom, for whatever the vessel

from which it flows, you will never be the loser."

(10) "Thinking deep for one hour(with sincerity) is better

than 70 years of (mechanical) worship."

(11) "Worship without knowledge, has no goodness in it and

knowledge without understanding has no goodness in it.

And the recitation of the Qur'an, which is not thoughtful

has no goodness in it."

(12) "To listen to the words of the learned and to instill

unto others the lessons of science is better than

religious exercises."

(13) "Acquire knowledge: it enables its possessor to

distinguish right from the wrong, it lights the way to

heaven; it is our friend in the desert, our society in

solitude, our companion when friendless; it guides us

to happiness; it sustains us in misery; it is an ornament

among friends and an armor against enemies."

Ways to Improve Digestion

Ways to Improve Digestion

Correctly combining foods is associated with considerably improving digestion. Good digestion is crucial for our long-term health and well-being. If we don't digest and absorb nutrients from our food properly, every bodily function can be affected.

Digestion is not just about getting food in and out; it is the absorption and assimilation of nutrients for the nourishment of the whole body, as well as construction and repair of cells.

Food combining has been found to improve digestive malfunctions like indigestion, heartburn, bloating, constipation and flatulence, as well as easing symptoms of more complicated gut disorders like irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, colon cancer, etc.

Many of these problems are often related to food in some way, and can be resolved by watching what we eat and how we eat it.

Be Useful: Live Longer

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Nothing keeps away the decree (of Allah) except prayer, and nothing increases the life (of man) except goodness; and man is only denied the provisions (of life) because of sins upon which he falls." [Ibn Majah] "Almsgiving extinguishes the wrath of Allah." [Tirmidhi]

This hadith tells us many important things:

1. If we want to prevent misfortunes, accidents, and bad things in general from happening to us, we should make dua. Dua alone has the power to stall some misfortune that was decreed to befall us.
2. If we want to live longer, then we should practice what Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) defines as goodness.
3. If we want our rizq/provisions to increase, we should not commit sins.
4. If we don't want to be punished by Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) for our sins, we should give sadaqa/charity.

Research suggests that those who spend 4-6 hours in various voluntary activities weekly live 6-8 years longer than those who don't. This is one of the benefits of helping others that modern research has revealed. There are hundreds of other benefits. Make yourself useful so that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) may let you live a few more years to serve His creation. [30 Second Successories by Faiez H. Seyal]

BJP, others playing dirty politics: Tipu’s descendant

Kolkata, Nov 12 : A descendant of Tipu Sultan on Thursday accused the BJP and other outfits of playing “dirty politics” over the erstwhile Mysore ruler’s birth anniversary celebrations and said he would seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the matter.

Shahzada Anwar Ali Shah, a descendant of Tipu Sultan, also lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for “maligning the country’s image internationally by portraying the monarch as a tyrant and intolerant”.

“It’s not only unfortunate but dangerous that certain representatives of the BJP, VHP and other fringe groups are playing dirty politics over Tipu Sultan, who was one of the first freedom fighters in the country,” Shah told IANS.

“On one hand, Modi is visiting foreign countries and presenting India as an ideal destination for investments, and on the other, his own party people are maligning the country’s image by trying to distort history and give a bad name to a historical icon,” said Shah, who lives in the city’s Tollygunge area.

Uniting Humanity

The message of Islam is for the entire human race. According to Islam, Allah is the God of the entire world and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is a messenger for the whole of mankind.

According to Islam, all men are equal, whatever be their color, language, race or nationality. Islam addresses itself to the conscience of humanity and banishes all false barriers of race, status and wealth. There can be no denying the fact that such barriers have always existed, and do exist even today in this so-called enlightened age. Islam, however, removes all these impediments and proclaims the idea of the whole of humanity being one family of God.

Decorating Masjids

Decorating Masjids

The Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), said: "The Hour will not come to pass until people vie in boasting with each other in building masjids." [Abu Dawud]

The majority of the jurists (may Allah have mercy upon them) are of the view that it is disliked to decorate masjids with gold or silver, or engrave them, or write on them, or do any other thing that might distract the praying person from his prayer. The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "I have not been ordered to build high and lofty masjids." [Ibn Habbaan] Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) said: "Indeed you will embellish the masjids [and decorate them] in a similar way the Christians and Jews did to their places of worship." Imam Maalik and Ahmad (may Allah have mercy upon them) also disliked the decoration of masjids. Some jurists of the Hanbali and Shaafi'ee school are of the view that it is forbidden to decorate masjids with gold or silver, and any such decoration should be removed, because it is a waste of money, and hurts the feelings of the poor.

What are the remains of this wordly life?
Except the thoughts about child and wife,
If there is not another single soul
To think about our sugar bowl-
Filled with sweet thoughts and remembrance,
Then what is worth of worldly appearance?!

Nothing we had when we were born,
Nothing we take when others mourn
On our departure from this sandy earth
Which may for sometimes stand beneath
The hundred thoughts and hundred worries
Of modern man as he buries.

Its on your Face!

The Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), said: "If anyone has a good or evil inner nature Allah will make apparent some sign of it by which it will be recognised." [Mishkat al-Masabih]

What you are on the inside will eventually reveal itself on the outside and on your face. Umar (radi Allahu anhu) was an expert face reader. Once a man passed Umar (radi Allahu anhu) and he remarked that the man had dealt with magic: that he was either a magician or had been a magician. People inquired from him and he admitted that he had been a magician prior to Islam.

Congratulations

Narrated Muawiya (radi Allahu anhu): I heard the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) saying, "A group of people amongst my followers will remain obedient to Allah's orders and they will not be harmed by anyone who will not help them or who will oppose them, till Allah's Order (the Last Day) comes upon them while they are still on the right path." [Sahih Bukhari]

These are really good tidings for us, that no matter what the enemies of Islam try, they will never be able to annihilate Islam. There will always, till the Day of Judgment, be Muslims who are rightly guided and rightly guiding. Congratulations to such people, for Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) promises that nobody will be able to harm them.

Text of A.R. Rahman’s letter

(With No intention to offend anyone: A.R. Rahman on blasphemy controversy

“This letter is for all those people, who have been aware of the recent events concerning me. I’m not a scholar of Islam. I follow the middle path and am part of traditionalist and part rationalist

I live in the western and eastern worlds and try to love all people for what they are, without judging them

I didn’t direct or produce the movie Muhammad (PBUH), Messenger Of God.” I just did the music. My spiritual experiences of working on the film are very personal and I would prefer not to share these.

Mr. Noori, a member of the Raza Academy, has said in an interview featured in “The Bayside Journal”, why he believes it is important to voice a complaint:

Mr Noori: “See, as Muslims we have to do something about it since it is against our religion so that tomorrow, if and when e face Allah he doesn’t say that you didn’t do anything to stop this from happening. So we have to try”.

My decision to compose the music for this film was made in good faith with no intentions of causing offence.

In fact, the decision was based on similar point of view as expressed by Mr. Noori. What, and if, I had the good fortune of facing Allah (Sbt), and he were to ask me on Judgement Day:

How Kaabah was Built?

Assalamu-Alaikum and Greetings !

As we are entering the Hajj season, it would be timely to review how the city of Makkah was inhabited and how the Kaabah was built. As most of us know, Prophet Ibrahim took his wife Hajar and his very young son Ismail to the uninhabited land that later was called Makkah.

Seeing that Ibrahim had left them in the middle of no where, Ismail’s (Ishmael) mother followed him saying, "O Ibrâhîm (Abraham)! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no person whose company we may enjoy, nor is there anything (to enjoy)?" She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look back at her. Then she asked him, "Has Allâh ordered you to do so?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Then He will not neglect us," and returned while Ibrâhîm (Abraham) proceeded onwards....

Real standards of beauty

Real standards of beauty

Beautiful women making the front page of magazines and newspapers splashed with airbrushed models and celebrities. Not to mention, TV and social media platforms buzzing with news of how flawlessly beautiful this celebrity is and how amazingly tanned that celebrity isஸ Well, this is an everyday happening and people have become obsessed with the beauty standards of this world.

The media have been successful in achieving many things and one of its greatest traps is that it has caused women to succumb to the beauty standards of today. Every young girl who flips through a magazine will find themselves yearning to look as perfect as those airbrushed and photoshopped women and teenage girls in particularly, are willing to go to any length to match up with these beauty standards. This is why we see so many young girls lying in hospital beds as a result of anorexia as they tortured their body into being slim

, girls disfiguring their faces to make it look more model-like and in some extreme cases, some women even going to the extent of setting their own beauty standard that is a level ahead. I don’t even have to say how disastrous this is and if young girls haven’t tried out those, they fall into depression because they can’t match the standards the world expects of them.

Massive rally in Paris to express solidarity with Syrian migrants

Paris : A massive rally was held in the heart of the French capital  to express solidarity with the thousands of migrants and refugees arriving in Europe each day, and to urge the European Union (EU) to take action, France 24 reported.

Around 8,500 people participated in the demonstration in the Place de la République in Paris, according to police figures, with many waving Syrian flags.

“We are all descendants of immigrants,” one placard said, as the crowd chanted, “Open the borders!”
Smaller rallies were also held in other towns and cities across France, with around 10,000 people demonstrating in total.

Reward through Husband's Earnings

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "When a woman spends (in the Path of Allah) from her husband's wealth, not wasting it (but spends reasonably and within permissible limits) she will have her reward for what she gave and her husband will have his for what he earned. The same applies to the storekeeper. The reward of any of these persons does not diminish the rewards of the others." [Sahih Bukhari]

In the life of this world, the title or ownership of wealth is outwardly assigned to human beings, through apparent means such as earnings or inheritance, due to the necessity of organising the affairs of an orderly society. However, all human beings are on an equal footing in terms of real ownership of possessions, in view of the fact that it is not man but Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) Who is the Absolute Owner. The husband, the wife, and even an employee who arranges for the charity payment to be made, are all rewarded due to their respective roles in facilitating the giving of charity and not on account of their temporary ownership of what was donated.

This hadith of Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) should be a source of reassurance to ladies that their giving in charity will earn them reward, regardless of whether they personally earned the money or not.

The Monster Mystery - 1 The big sleep over

Written by Shayma.
Sleep overThunder… lightning and heavy rain. A little girl ran to her home with a fever. She opened the door, ran inside and locked the door tightly. She sneezed and coughed very hard. She went to the

kitchen to ask her mom for hot water. She was coughing as she went to the kitchen. Her mother looked at her as she came in. “What happened Vanessa?” her mother asked.

“I caught a cold as I was coming back from the market” Vanessa replied back. “May I have hot water please?” she asked. “Yes, you may.” Her mother sighed.

After drinking the water Vanessa went upstairs to her room to go to sleep. Then when she woke up saw that she slept for five hours! She remembered that she came home from the market five hours before the night, so now she knew that it was the night.  So she got up and went downstairs to the living room. She just was about to lie down on the sofa when the bell rang. She went to answer it thinking it was her dad. But just in case she saw who it could be. Outside was a man in a dark black suit that was soaking wet. Their uncle was standing there with a mad expression.

Women attending the Masjid

The Masjid is known as the ‘house of Allah’ as it symbolises the place where God is worshipped. This is the place of devotion and proclamation of his Greatness and Majesty. Although the Prophet (peace be upon him) declared that ‘the entire earth has been made a masjid for me’, in other words we can pray anywhere. However, the Masjid has a special place in Muslim society. This spot of land designated as the Masjid is “the best place on earth” (prophetic tradition).
“The person who visits the Masjid is God’s guest and divine hospitality is forgiveness” said the Prophet (peace be upon him). The one who prays in congregation in the Masjid gets his reward multiplied twenty seven times (Hadith). “Whoever waits in the Masjid for the next prayer is protected as he is in a Ribat (fortress) which gives protection from the attacks of the devil and ones ego” (Hadith). The serene, quiet and simple environment of the Masjid lifts the spirit, which helps the worshipper to focus and get absorbed in divine thoughts.

Studying-Religion-in-Narrow-Perspective-Led-Many-into-Extremism

TEHRAN (IQNA) - Most people who become involved with extremist or militant groups are those who did not study the real Islam, but learnt about it in a narrow perspective, said Malaysia's Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

"Some learnt from teachers who were prone to wrong teachings or who had strayed from the true Islamic teachings.

"If they had learnt the true Islam, the religion does not teach them to commit violence or extremist activities," he said.

Asyraf Wajdi was speaking to reporters after representing the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom in presenting excellence awards for the national-level Al-Quran Thursday.

The Different Kinds Of Exercises Your Body Needs

There are different types of exercises and you should try to expose your body to them all of them. Exercise increases your heart rate and moves the muscles in your body. Swimming, walking, playing football, or riding a bike are all examples of exercise that does these things.

Looking at fitness and your body closer up, your exercise should include something from each of these four basic fitness areas:

Cardio-respiratory endurance is the same thing as aerobic endurance. It is the ability to exercise your heart and lungs nonstop over certain time periods. When you exercise, your heart beats faster, sending more needed oxygen to your body. If you are not fit, your heart and lungs have to work harder during exercise. Long runs and swims, or even long brisk walks are examples of activities that can help your heart and lungs work better.

The Prophet's Message of Peace

Author: Unknown

A major part of the Prophet (saw)’s mission was to bring peace to the world.

One of the ways in which he strove towards this end was to attempt to convince people that all men and women, albeit inhabiting very different regions of the world, and different from one another in color, culture and language, et cetera, were in fact blood brothers and sisters.

His message was crucial, for a proper relationship of love and respect can be established only if that is how human beings regard one another. To inculcate such feelings, the Prophet would preach to his followers, "You are all Adam’s offspring and Adam was made of clay." And in his prayers to his Creator, he said, "O Lord, all Your servants are brothers."

Visiting the Sick

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "The one who visits the sick is in fact like one who is in the fruit garden of Paradise so long as he does not return." [Sahih Muslim]

There is great merit in paying a visit to the sick, whether one knows the patient or not. The following is a story of how a man came to take the shahada.

The man was in a hospital sharing a room with a Muslim. One day some people came to visit the Muslim. They came in, hugged the Muslim brother, kissed him, and talked to him with love and affection. They stayed for a while and shared a closeness that was true. After they left, the man asked the Muslim if those were his brothers who had just visited him. The Muslim replied, "No, they learned that I was sick today, at the Friday prayer, and so they came to visit me. I just met them today." This shocked the man. Those people had not acted in an awkward stranger fashion but like true brothers.

This led to the man asking more questions and finally accepting Islam. This duty of visiting the sick was as always blessed by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). In addition, this time it also served as a vehicle to guide a man to Islam.

What I will be remembered for.. my memory of the last day with the great Kalam sir...

What I will be remembered for.. my memory of the last day with the great Kalam sir...

It has been eight hours since we last talked – sleep eludes me and memories keep flushing down, sometimes as tears. Our day, 27th July, began at 12 noon, when we took our seats in the flight to Guhawati. Dr. Kalam was 1A and I was IC. He was wearing a dark colored “Kalam suit”, and I started off complimenting, “Nice color!” Little did I know this was going to be the last color I will see on him.
Long, 2.5 hours of flying in the monsoon weather. I hate turbulence, and he had mastered over them. Whenever he would see me go cold in shaking plane, he would just pull down the window pane and saw, “Now you don’t see any fear!”.
That was followed by another 2.5 hours of car drive to IIM Shillong. For these two legged trip of five hours we talked, discussed and debated. These were amongsthundreds of the long flights and longer drives we have been together over the last six years.
As each of them, this was as special too. Three incidents/discussions in particular will be “lasting memories of our last trip”.

Guarding the Borders of Muslim Land

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "Everyone who dies has his actions sealed, except for the one guarding the border in the way of Allah - his actions continue to increase for him until the Day of Resurrection and he is saved from the trials of the grave." [Abu Dawud]

This shows the importance of guarding Muslim frontiers against the Kuffar. If the sovereignty of Muslims in their land is lost, their Deen becomes compromised: Muslims lose the freedom to practice Islam, and even to think independently. This is what we can see has happened in many parts of the world today. The weaker Muslims even attempt to change Islam to justify what they do among the Kuffar or hypocrites. Therefore, we are told the virtues of the Mujahid who defends the land of Islam and protects the freedom of the Muslims.

The Mujahid continues to have good deeds written for him until the Day of Resurrection, while the deeds of all others end with their deaths. The records of others are finalized but that of the Mujahid continues to accrue good deeds as though he were still doing them, until the Day of Judgement. The guard defending Muslim borders is also spared from the trials of the grave. This is such an important job and the reward for it so enormous that “…for a Muslim to keep watch at the border of the Islamic state for one night is better than the world and what it contains.” [Sahih Bukhari]

Islamic Quotes

New Islam TV service called Alchemiya launched in UK

London : A new on demand TV service called Alchemiya is launching in the UK hoping to change perceptions and misconceptions of Islam, BBC reported.

Alchemiya is the brainchild of two British Muslims, and offers documentaries and entertainment.
Alchemiya TV is spearheaded by Navid Akhtar, who has 20 years of experience as a producer at the BBC and Channel 4. The chief marketing officer is the prominent Muslim commentator and Imam Ajmal Masroor.
It will broadcast award-winning films, independent documentaries, travel, lifestyle, children’s programmes, history and religion.

For Akhtar, this Ramadan has been a chance to establish a broader understanding with friends of what their faith means to Muslims today, in the West and elsewhere.
The idea is for Alchemiya to show a different side of the modern Muslim world – one seen all too rarely on the news today.

Eating Fish Reduces Risk of Alzheimer's Disease, Study Finds

People who eat baked or broiled fish on a weekly basis are thought to be improving their brain health and reducing their risk of developing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study.

"This is the first study to establish a direct relationship between fish consumption, brain structure and Alzheimer's risk," said the lead author.

"The results showed that people who consumed baked or broiled fish at least one time per week had better preservation of gray matter volume on MRI in brain areas at risk for Alzheimer's disease."

Alzheimer's disease is an incurable, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and cognitive skills. In mild cognitive impairment, or MCI, memory loss is present but to a lesser extent than in Alzheimer's disease. People with MCI often go on to develop Alzheimer's disease.

What's your IQ

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "The most intelligent person is the one who remembers death often."

If a person is thought to be very intelligent, yet fails exam after exam, soon all those around him/her will begin to think that he/she is not really very intelligent after all. To get through life with your faith intact, with good deeds, and with Allah’s pleasure as your greatest goal, is the biggest exam you will ever face.

If you fail the exam of life you cannot call yourself intelligent, regardless of what else your “intelligence” allowed you to accumulate of education, wealth, fame or pleasure. These will all go to waste with your death, while you will still have to stand before your Lord and face the consequences for eternity.

New-Fasting-Rules-Where-Sun-Never-Sets

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Making fasting easier for Nordic Muslims, where fasting lasts for more than 20 hours in summer, a Swedish Islamic organization has presented new guidelines to cope with that situation ahead of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

“We've got two difficult questions, not just when you can break the fast in the north but also when you should start fasting,” Mohammed Kharraki, a spokesman for Sweden's Islamic Association, told Agence France Presse (AFP) on Thursday, June 11.

“You're supposed to start fasting before the sun rises, at dawn. But there is no real dawn in the summer months in Stockholm.”
Ramadan, the holiest month in Islamic calendar, starts on Thursday, June 18.

Should You Boast

Should You Boast
The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Allah has inspired to me that you are all to be humble towards each other such that no one transgresses against or exalts himself above another." [Sahih Muslim]

Unfortunately, the tides have so turned, that we now consider it a mark of confidence to boast about ourselves. Whatever you have, is because Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) gave it to you or allowed you to have it; whether it is intelligence, looks, wealth, lineage, faith, character or anything else.

If someone thinks that they worked hard and achieved by their own merit alone what they got, they should look at all those who also work hard but do not reach their goals. If you studied hard and excelled, who made it possible for you to have the time to study? You could have been born into a family where children have to go to work to make ends meet.

Souls in Green Birds

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Their (shuhada’s) souls are in the crops of green birds, which have lamps hanging from the Throne, and they roam freely wherever they want in Paradise, then they return to those lamps. Their Lord looked down upon them and said: ‘Do you desire anything?’ They said: ‘What could we desire, when we can roam freely wherever we want in Paradise?’ He (subhanahu wa ta’ala) did that with them three times, and when they saw that they would not be left without being asked, they said: ‘O Lord, we want You to restore our souls to our bodies so that we may be killed in Your cause again.’ When He saw that they had no need, they were left alone.” [The Book of Leadership: Sahih Muslim]

Every Disease has a Cure

Narrated Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “There is no disease that Allah has sent down except that He also has sent down its treatment.” [The Book of Medicine: Sahih Bukhari]

The reason that Muslims advanced so much in Medicine is because the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) had told them that for every disease there is a cure and that they should seek treatment. He pointed to many cures himself. He encouraged the women of his household to learn medicine from those who knew it. Women, in the time of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), excelled in medicine. The Prophet had pitched a tent in the yard of his mosque in Madina and appointed a lady named Rufaidah to run it as a field hospital, nurse the wounded and care for homeless newcomers to Madina. [Tarikh at-Tabari]

In Baghdad in 1168 C.E., there were no less than sixty well-organized medical institutions and the Mustansiriyya Medical College at Baghdad had magnificent buildings, luxurious furniture, library with rare scientific books and a great dining hall to serve good food to students.

I found Qur’an mother of all philosophies

Myriam Francois-Cerrah became popular when she was a child for acting in the 90s hit film 'Sense and Sensibility.' Now she is gaining more popularity for being one of a growing number of educated middle class female converts to Islam in Britain. She has recently contributed to a series of videos on Islam produced in the UK titled, “Inspired by Muhammad.”
I embraced Islam after graduating from Cambridge. Prior to that I was a skeptical Catholic — a believer in God but with a mistrust of organized religion.
The Qur’an was pivotal for me. I first tried to approach it in anger, as part of an attempt to prove my Muslim friend wrong. Later I began reading it with a more open mind.
The opening of Al-Fatiha, with its address to the whole of mankind, psychologically stopped me in my tracks. It spoke of previous scriptures in a way, which I both recognized, but also differed. It clarified many of the doubts I had about Christianity. It made me an adult as I suddenly realized that my destiny and my actions had consequences for which I alone would now be held responsible.
In a world governed by relativism, it outlined objective moral truths and the foundation of morality.
As someone who’d always had a keen interest in philosophy, the Qur’an felt like the culmination of all of this philosophical cogitation.

The Pleasures of Learning

The rise of Muslims to the zenith of civilization in a period of four decades was based on Al-lslam's emphasis on learning. This is obvious when one takes a look at the Qur'an and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (s) which are filled with references to learning, education, observation, and the use of reason. The very first verse of the Qur'an revealed to the Prophet of Al Islam on the night of 27th of Ramadan in 611 AD reads:

"Read: In the name of thy Lord who created man from a clot. Read: And thy Lord is the Most Generous Who taught by the pen, taught man that which he knew not."

Accusing A Woman of Adultery

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Allah Most High says,

“Those who slander chaste secured, and believing women are cursed in this life and in the hereafter: for them is a grievous chastisement. On the day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to their as to their actions.” (24: 23-24)

He also says,

“And those who launch a charge against chaste women and produce not four witnesses (to support their allegations) -flog them with eighty stripes: and reject their evidence ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors.” (24: 4)

Allah the Almighty in these verses makes it clear that whosoever unjustly accuses as chaste free woman of committing adultery is cursed both in this world and in the hereafter, and deserves grave chastisement.

In addition, he is flogged with eighty lashes and his witness is not accepted even though he is just.

In the Sahih Bukhari and Muslim -the Prophet says,

“Avoid seven heinous sins…..”

And among which he mentioned charging believing women, unmindful though innocent, with adultery”
